*IMPORTANT information on the new Harmonized Excise Tax July 2024*
Starting July 1'st 2024 all eliquids manufactured or imported into Canada are subject to the new Federal Excise Tax Rates or the new Harmonized Excise Tax (HET) and will have a new stamp. The Harmonized Excise Tax is a combined Federal and Provincial sin tax designed to increase the base price of all eliquids in Canada. Midnight Vaper is located in Ontario and as such are subject to the HET. Excise taxes are applied at the Manufacturer or importer level which increases the base cost for Retailers and in turn the base cost to the consumer. Excise taxes are pre paid so the only taxes applied to the customer at checkout are the standard sales taxes (HST, GST, PST).
Retailers will have until Sept 30 2024 to sell any remaining stock under the old excise tax system and stamp. I do have some liquids under the current excise tax that are on order and expected to arrive in a week or so. However as that stock is depleted you will start to see new checkout options for the new HET stamped bottles. When adding flavours to your cart, under the 'size' drop down menu you will start to see two options. 60ml and 60ml HET. The 60ml will be the remaining stock under the old excise tax and will be sold at their current price point. The 60ml HET bottles will be the new bottles under the new tax and the price will reflect that.

*IMPORTANT Regulation Changes Oct 1 2022*
Begining Oct 1'st 2022 Canada will introduce an Excise Tax on all Vaping liquids (including pre-filled pods and disposables). This tax will unfortunatley mean a noticiable increase in the cost of vaping liquids moving forward. The tax rate is based on the amount of liquid in each individual pod or container.
$1.00 per 2ml (or part there of) for the first 10ml
$1.00 per each 10ml (or part there of) over 10ml
Example of Impact:
package of 3 pods each holding 2.5ml of liquid - $6.00 - ($1.00 for the first 2ml + $1.00 for the part there of the next 2ml x 3 individual pods)
30ml bottle - $7.00 - ($5.00 for the first 10ml + $2.00 for the remaining 20ml)
60ml bottle - $10.00
120ml bottle - $16.00
How it will work:
Staring on Oct 1'st all vaping substances manufactured in Canada OR imported into Canada will be required to have an excise sticker on the package (like with cigarettes) showing that the excise tax has been paied. The tax is collected at the Wholesale level, meaning that the excise tax will be paid either by the manufacturer at the time of production or by the importer. This will increase the cost of aqusition for the retailer which will in turn increase the retail price for the consumer. By the time the consumer purchases the product the excise tax has already been paid so only the regular GST / HST will be collected at checkout.
As you can see, the smaller the amount of liquid in a container, the more impact the excise tax will have. Larger bottles of liquid will be effected less. Moving forward, Midnight Vaper will be phasing out 30ml bottles wherever possible. Starting on Oct 1'st all Flavourcrafter lqiuds pruchased will be 60ml bottles, and more larger format 120ml bottles will be added to our lineup. Overall I suspect the trend to move towards larger format bottles.
Starting Oct 1'st all vaping substances manufactured or imported in Canada will have the new excise tax applied and must contain an excise stamp. However a grace period will allow the sale of non stamped products until the end of the year. This means that as long as unstamped products remain in stock they can be sold at their current price until Dec 31'st. So as long as inventory remains there will be no change in price to existing stock.
This presents a tricky situation as retailers will not want to be stuck with a bunch of liquids they can not sell. So consumers should not expect stock levels of non stamped products to remain high for very long. In other words if you want to buy your favorite liquids at cheaper prices you are best to do so sooner than later.
Check back regularly from now until the end of the year for discounts of up to 50% on existing non stamped liquids.
